Happy Birthday Anna!
you just inspired me to write this post.
what is inspiration? where does it come from? what causes it? how does it affect people? and why? what are the results?
if you want the dictionary version it goes something like this:
and its true, when I’m inspired, I feel good, I feel lighter, uplifted, positive, enthusiastic everything around me seems brighter more beautiful, more fun – easier. I laugh more freely, love more freely, I am more impulsive and spontaneous.
When I’m inspired I’m bursting with so much energy that I feel that I can achieve great things..like climb mountains (hehe!)…or step up on stage in a sparkly bikini and stripper heels!!
Being inspired is a wonderful feeling that you just can’t describe in words, and because its not tangible you can’t give it to other people no matter how much you want to, everyone has to find their own source of inspiration - it is a totally unique experience for every person.
To me inspiration comes from an experience that touches you deeply in some way – it could be a pleasurable experience or it could be a painful experience, it could be that someone else is experiencing something that aligns totally with your values or beliefs at a deep level, it could be anger, rage or fear that inspires you to change something for the better.
I get inspiration from everywhere – it could be a beautiful cold clear sunny winter morning as I’m cycling to training with dawn breaking over the MCG, it could be a beautiful photograph, my trainer inspires me for what he had to overcome to get to where he is, my BFF Andrea, back in England, battled with alcholism and depression and still managed to retain her sense of humour..
It could be a piece of music – I know this is cheesy, but I love the Celine Dion song ’I'm Alive’ – if i’m a bit down in the dumps I whack that on full volume and dance around the living room or have a good cry -however it pans out, whatever is going on in my life there is a reason and it shows that I am alive
I also love playing ‘So What’ by Pink at full volume – for obvious reasons!
one of my favourite quotes is:
‘Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.’ (Brian Littrell)
Look at some of the great leaders of our time – Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King – what was their inspiration?
Injustice? Compassion? Anger? Love?
Look at the incredible things they achieved…
I’m sure you can find many examples for yourselves.
So why has Anna inspired me?
Well when I was 25 I had no idea what I wanted out of life, I didn’t have any particular goals or direction I’d done all the rights things by going to University (twice!), getting a job, I had a nice safe boyfriend and lived a comfortable life. I guess I thought I was happy, I was healthy and cruising along.
Where I am right now is WAAAY better – I am seriously in the best health and physical shape of my life, I have goals, I have direction, I’m doing things – for me – that I would never had contemplated, I know who I am (most of the time!!), what I want and how I’m going to get it – I know that I am my own best resource and I know how to stop and smell the roses and appreciate and be grateful to all the many people who have helped me get to where I am right now.
So for Anna, at 25, to say that she is the happiest and healthiest she has ever been and not only to be setting big goals, but achieving them. For her to understand that many people are there supporting and encouraging her along the way and acknowledging them
well, to me, that is inspiring – it has taken me a lot longer to get to that space!
good for you Anna – see you on stage in 6 weeks
don’t forget the marshmallows!
